First Day of Summer- The Summer Solstice Coincided With a Strawberry Moon

Waiting until nearly nightfall, Google has posted its Summer Solstice doodle on its U.S. homepage to observe the first day of summer and longest day of the year.

This year, Google’s Summer Solstice doodle had something extra to mark beyond the changing of seasons. For the first time since 1967, the Summer Solstice coincides with a Strawberry Moon – June’s full moon.

Designed by doodler Nate Swineheart, the animated image leads to a search for “summer solstice and strawberry moon” and includes a family of anthropomorphized rock with a strawberry-hunting squirrel all beneath the full moon.

According to the Google Doodle Blog, we won’t see a Strawberry Moon fall on Summer Solstice again until 2062.
